With its closer proximity to the mainland, Islamorada has a variety of hotels , motels , inns and guesthouses . There are also many fine resorts , most of them right on the water, and there are campgrounds and RV parks too. Bed and breakfasts are not very common, but there are a few. Islamorada offers some vacation rentals too. Check with the vacation rental agencies listed for their inventory of rental homes and condos available for your vacation.

There is even a marina that rents houseboats complete with propane energy, a kitchen with a refrigerator, and toilet and shower, and fresh water. These houseboats have sleeping room for six people. In order to rent one of these, however, you need to be experienced in running a boat of this size and able to read navigational charts.

Be aware that there are some different rules concerning lengths of stay here. In most places, you are not permitted to stay for only one night on a weekend. In order to attract business from the mainland, they are big into three-day holiday weekend packages in the area; at these times, high season rates usually apply. Take time to look into locally celebrated holiday weekends, however, because they have some you may have never heard of. Remember to consider the local, state, and tourist taxes that will be attached to your bill.

Children are almost always welcome and there are plenty of places that accept pets. Before you call for reservations, have in mind what you want from your stay. As there are accommodations on both sides of the Overseas Highway, you need to choose whether you want to see the sunrise, on the oceanside, or sunset, on the Florida Bay side.
