Excepting Key West, it seems the closer you get to the mainland, the more restaurants there are to pick from. When choosing a place to eat, many vacationers rely on recommendations from friends, and some want to return to a restaurant they patronized on a previous visit to this area. The Florida Keys has an ever-changing population; some restaurants quickly fail and someone new is always trying to make their mark on the scene. Eateries often change hands and new management, and even new chefs, can mean a drastic change to food offerings and quality.

Key Largo is, in many ways, a bedroom community for the Miami area. Many people who live there commute to the mainland for work. And, many people on the mainland often drive to Key Largo for long weekends or holiday celebrations.

There are several very good restaurants in the Key Largo area to choose from. Seafood restaurants abound and alligator is more prevalent than in the rest of the Keys. You will be able to find Cuban, Mexican, Caribbean, Italian, Thai and Japanese fare. The home-style cooking establishments are some of the best in the Keys. During season, it is advisable to call for reservations at the better restaurants. Children are welcome in most. Several fast-food franchises have locations in the Islamorada-Key Largo areas.
