Key West is probably one of the easiest destinations
to get to. Being that the Florida Keys are a chain of islands, it is a common
misconception that it's difficult to get here. Fact is there are cruise ships
that visit Key West almost every day, an international airport on our tiny
island, and a road called US-1 that comes just over 100 miles from mainland
Florida all the way to Mile Marker 0 in Key West, Florida. Driving - One of the most scenic drives in the U.S. Take the Florida Turnpike south to Exit 4 - Homestead/Key West. This is the Turnpike Extension that will connect you to Route US 1 in Florida City, which takes you through the Keys to Key West at the very end of US 1. Speed limits throughout the Florida Keys are strictly enforced. Please be especially careful through the Big Pine Key area as this is a Key Deer Refuge. Speed limits are reduced in this area.
