Bahia Honda State Park - A Florida Keys picture perfect beach

Bahia Honda State Park

Bahia Honda State Park, located along the scenic Overseas Highway, offers 524 acres of tropical trees, crystal clear water and stunning panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean, Florida Bay and both the 7 Mile Bridge and its historic counterpart the old 7 mile bridge; and as for beaches go, it is rated one of the most beautiful in the world by many prestigious travel magazines.

Bahia Honda features a wide variety of recreational and relaxing activities. Spend the day kayaking, swimming, wading for bonefish or just lounging on the soft sand. Birdwatchers will enjoy the abundance of seabirds such as pelicans, egrets and the blue heron.

When you want to venture beyond the beach, there are daily snorkel and dive trips to Looe Key Reef, which is about 12 miles from Bahia Honda. Fishing charters are popular during tarpon season. With one the highest altitudes in the Florida Keys the park’s many trails and overlooks are perfect for hiking and bicycling.

The Old Bahia Honda Bridge is a unique architectural element, and it ranks up there as one of the most photographed in the Keys. It was constructed in 1917 as part of Henry Flagler’s Overseas Railroad. After it was destroyed by a hurricane in 1936, it was adapted for vehicle traffic. Today, it makes a great vantage point for watching boats glide through the channel.

In addition to enjoying the park for the day, travelers can go camping at Bahia Honda State Park. Campsites are available for tents and RVs. Some sites can be reserved ahead of time while others are rented on a first-come, first-served basis. There are also three rental cabins at Bahia Honda. Advance reservations are highly suggested as they fill up quickly.

Bahia Honda is a convenient day trip or weekend excursion from anywhere in the Florida Keys. This beautiful beach in Florida Keys has restrooms, outdoor showers, a concession stand, gift shop and picnic areas.
